Combat Tips And Tricks For The Outlast Trials

Survival of the fittest, after all.

In the original Outlast games, you couldn't fight back. You still can't beat up enemies in The Outlast Trials, but you can defend yourself. There are tons of different ways you can ward off Mother Gooseberry and her minions instead of running away in fear.

Once you overcome AI and enemies are no longer threatening, you can do just about anything, like complete Program X. With these tips for combat in The Outlast Trials, you will be ready to become Reborn. Grade A's, here we come.

If Mother Gooseberry or another menacing enemy is wandering near an important objective, you can lure them out without revealing yourself. Throw a bottle or a brick at a wall behind an enemy, and they will go and investigate. This is a great way to sneak past enemies to reach objectives.

You can get an Amp that will increase the range of distraction. With Cacophony, you can throw a bottle farther away, and an enemy will still hear it and investigate. Without this Amp, you will have to throw a bottle relatively close for it to successfully distract.

The best way to lose chase is by closing doors behind you while an enemy is after you. It may feel dangerous to stop running and spend time fiddling with the door, but it could be the difference between completing an objective and dying.

Smaller enemies will have to break down doors slowly. Bigger enemies will bust doors down quicker. Regardless, they must stop chasing you briefly to remove the barrier set in place. Naturally, the more doors you close, the more likely you can lose their line of sight or find a good hiding spot.

The two best Rigs are Stun and Heal. Stun instantly incapacitates enemies temporarily and charges your night vision goggles. Stun will allow you to defend yourself and your teammates while waiting for the escape shuttle or when a teammate needs help.

The Heal Rig does three amazing things at once when upgraded. Not only will it heal you and any friend nearby, but it will cure psychosis and slow down enemies left in its mist. The healing mist slowing down enemies will allow you time to escape. With these two Rigs in your squad, you won't even need items like a battery or healing potion.

When you start panicking or want to rush to an objective, don't. You will end up bringing attention to yourself or accidentally running into sound traps and broken glass. The worst thing you can do is start sprinting around when you don't need to.

If you aren't being chased by anyone, there is no reason to run for an extended period of time. Even if there is no broken glass beneath you, running around will alert nearby enemies. Near the end-game, your movement and choices must be well-thought-out and slow if you want to survive.

Outside of a chase, there is no reason to bash open doors. When you are playing EXAM mode of a trial or going through Program X, trap doors will be increased. If you casually open every single door, you will trigger a trap every time. Triggering a trap door not only alerts enemies but can bring you into psychosis.

If you slow-open a door, any trap connected to it will not trigger. When you are not in a chase, you have the time to slow-open doors. Lots of casual movement can be heard by enemies, so slowly opening doors not only disarms traps but will keep you hidden.

Just like in Dead by Daylight, sometimes you may have to loop the killer. With upgraded stamina, you will be able to run for days. If you've learned the map, loop the most threatening enemy in the area while other teammates get to work.

This is the best way to keep dangerous enemies like Prime Assets or Big Grunts off of a teammate who is on an objective. Looping an enemy is also the best way to survive while waiting for the shuttle to return at the end of the trial.

Waiting for the shuttle can be deadly because that is when all enemies are hunting you. Learning the AI and map will allow you to wait out the shuttle without taking a hit.

Bottles and bricks have tons of great uses. Aside from throwing them at enemies, you can get Pouncers off you instantly with a prescription perk or remove Screamers from an important area. You can also use throwables to distract enemies by throwing them in the opposite direction.

When wandering the trial looking for your downed friend or the next objective, keep a bottle in your hand. This prepares you for unwanted attention. You don't want to accidentally use a health potion in a panic. Having a throwable equipped will allow you to think fast.
